Volkswind UK Ltd is a wind farm developer and operator committed to producing environmentally friendly energy whilst achieving sustainability.
We feel we have a commitment to keep the local community informed of our proposed wind farm near Watford in Northants. We have thus created this website in order to involve you in the development process and to let you have your say.
Current Status
An application was submitted to Daventry District Council in August 2009 outlining a proposal for a wind farm of five turbines to be built near the village of Watford, Northamptonshire. The application was subsequently refused at a Committee meeting in April 2011 despite the planning officer's recommendation for approval. Volkswind UK Ltd appealed to the Secretary of State against the refusal to grant planning permission for the proposed development and the appeal was heard at a Public Inquiry throughout October/November 2011.
On 21st December 2011 the appeal decision was released by the Planning Inspectorate allowing the appeal and granting planning permission for construction of a wind farm of five turbines.
Why here?
Volkswind UK chose this location because:
> The site is not located within Green Belt land nor is it located in an area which is particularly sensitive in landscape or ecological terms
> Sufficient wind resource is available with a good nearby grid connection
> Good transport links allows access for construction with few nearby dwellings
Small scale wind farms such as the one proposed will form an important part of a diverse energy supply for the UK. The UK must meet a legally-binding target to ensure that 15% of our energy comes from renewable sources by 2020; a massive seven-fold proposed increase in the share of renewables in just over ten years.
